PROJECT  ENGINEER

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Bright Silicon Technologies, located in Livermore, Ca, is seeking an Project Engineer who is passionate about moving new technology to production. We are seeking a candidate with a background in electrical hardware or system engineering. You will be responsible for carrying out engineering projects, including devising a plan for accomplishing the project, working with internal and external engineering teams to meet milestones, as well as monitoring, leading, and troubleshooting. As the project engineer in a small company, you will be expected to contribute technically to electrical or systems engineering aspects of the projects while leading the technical staff through challenges to mature the LDA technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work effectively in a dynamic start-up environment while collaborating with both internal engineers and external engineering contractors, facilitating communication across teams to ensure alignment on project goals and progress.

  • Drive the development of the core LDA technology through various improvement iterations to achieve mass production by breaking down project goals and requirements into specific deliverables, tracking dependencies and ensuring timely execution throughout the lifecycle.

  • Work with program management to implement projects to create application demonstrations in the communications and optical circuit switch domains.

  • Schedule and lead cross-functional meetings to resolve issues, track action items, and ensure alignment at key checkpoints.

  • Anticipate potential timeline risks, develop mitigation plans, and effectively manage priorities within complex schedules.

  • Apply project management tools and methodologies (e.g., Gantt charts, critical path analysis) to establish a reliable tracking process for build activities.

  • Contribute technically to the electrical or systems development of the LDA.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • 5+ years of project lead or systems lead role in the development of complex electro-mechanical systems.

  • Demonstrated ability with engineering and system integration documentation.

  • Experience developing and tailoring product development and engineering processes based on program cost, schedule, and risk tolerance.

  • Excellent communication skills with experience managing a distributed team.

  • Self-starter mentality with a proactive approach to uncovering risks and managing dependencies.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

An ideal candidate would have familiarity with:

  • Experience with optical systems

  • Experience with optical communication systems

  • Experience with data center communication hardware

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • The position is primarily sedentary work with occasional work in a controlled environment reviewing equipment, process development and production.

  • Will work in controlled environments requiring special gowning. Will follow gowning requirements and wear protective clothing over the head, face, hands, feet and body.

  • This position is a primarily on-site role due to the small team nature of our startup.

  • There will be periodic exposure to manufacturing environments which may present hazards such as noise, electricity, chemicals, and other automated and manual machinery.
